INSTRUCTOR TRAINING FOR YOUTH ASSERTIVENESS/SELF DEFENSE PROGRAM

Learn to instruct a 10-week self-defense course - mental and physical awareness, self-defense skills and a practical range of safety and assertive strategies. This workshop is designed for Physical Education Instructors, Recreation Specialists, Martial Arts Instructors, Youth Workers and other Educators.

The workshop is a full day and includes a comprehensive trainer's manual.

Fit4Defense presented an instructor's workshop at the Pan American Senior Karate Championships in Quito, Equador on May 16th, 2010. Seven countries were represented in the training and plans are underway to translate the manual and materials into Spanish so that the program can be delivered in schools, dojos and for social programs throughout Central and South America! Fit 4 Defense - Empowerment, Assertiveness and Fitness Training Workshop

Ages 16 and Up - Saturday, November 20, 2010 - 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

This dynamic, fun and interactive workshop will include:

  • Practical self-defense skills - blocks, kicks, punches, wrist releases, strikes, chokes
  • Relaxation techniques - tai chi, yoga, breathing and meditation
  • Distinguishing between Aggressive, Passive and Assertive behaviors
  • Understanding Physical and Psychological Boundaries
  • Exploring the range of human ‘emotions’ and 'feelings' in particular, anger
  • And much more!

Activities include: Partner work, hands on exercises, group discussions.
The environment will be relaxed, comfortable and safe.
Mats and punching bags will be used for different techniques.

No fitness level is required.

The Fit4Defense program can assist you to build confidence and a sense of well being as you begin to counteract feelings of being ‘disrespected’ ‘powerless’ or 'afraid'. The exercises provide direction to identify your strengths and challenges, perceive potential aggressive triggers and cues, to practice assertive communication and to neutralize potentially violent situations without harm to yourself or others.

  • Respond effectively to bullying and abuse
  • Learn how to stay safe and avoid risks
  • Feel strong and confident
  • Increase physical fitness level
  • Communicate effectively
  • Learn about community-based sports, martial arts and fitness programs
